The Miller-VanWinkle Chapter of Trout Unlimited works to conserve and protect trout watersheds and increase fishing opportunities throughout our area. We are able to do this with the continued efforts provided by our members. If you would like to become a member of our chapter, please click here.

Trout Unlimited was originally founded in Grayling, Michigan in 1959. As America's leading cold water fisheries conservation organization, TU has 125,000 members in 500 chapters nationwide. TU members are dedicated to the conservation, protection, and restoration of trout and salmon and their watersheds.

President’s Corner

New Directions:
With new board members and renewed vitality, The Miller VanWinkle Chapter of TU is looking forward to great things in 2008 as we strive to improve trout habitat on our area streams and achieve greater visibility in our local fishing and conservation communities.

We have allocated over $1600 for beaver control on the West Branch of the Maple River and will continue our efforts to neutralize the progressive silting and warming of that great Brook Trout fishery.
In our own backyard we are currently planning rehabilitation projects for the Bear River to help it better sustain resident and migratory trout and we are seeking to build more visible and pro-active relationships with other local conservation groups such as Friends of the Jordan, Friends of the Boyne and Tipp of the Mitt Watershed council.

Of course none of this is possible without the help of our members and we will be aggressively pursuing new membership in the coming year through community fly tying classes, fly fishing presentations, our annual Spring Banquet and Youth Fishing Expo.

Our fundraising efforts, stream surveys/improvements and youth fishing education were all great successes in 2007 but we hope for bigger and better things in 2008.

Please lend your energies as the Miller VanWinkle Chapter of TU  works to better our trout streams for the next season and the next generation.
